In November 2016, I approached then sophomore at Kent State University Scott Little about a possible collaboration on opera. In November 2018 I had the great pleasure of seeing our one-act opera “The Story of an Hour” (based on the Kate Chopin story of the same name) given a full production by the students and faculty at Kent as part of their fall “Opera Scenes” performance. 

Working with Scott was amazing, an along the way we had help developing the piece by friends and family in a libretto reading and then having the pleasure of hearing two wonderful professional singers sing a twelve-minute excerpt from the opera-in-progress as part of Cleveland Opera Theater’s New Opera Works (N.O.W.) Festival.

Set in a small Italian town during World War II, The Pilot is the heartwarming story of one
family’s willingness to open their hearts and their home to a stranger in their midst and of the
capacity of an innocent child to remind us all what matters most. This original one-act opera is
in the process of being developed for presentation during the Christmas season 2020. Stay
